How To Make Soap A Starter Guide | Peak Soap


How to make soap at home. It's a popular question! Many people want to make soap themselves, it's a fun activity that can be done at home at the kitchen sink and can save money! However, making real soap takes practice and should not be attempted without the correct precautions. Here is a guide to getting started. In this example we are going to make COLD PROCESS soap which is made without the need to heat the mix. It is simple and effective and anyone with basic skills can master it. Here's what you'll need :

WHAT YOU NEED


1. Your choice of BASE oil (e.g., olive, sunflower, lard etc)
2. Sodium Hydroxide (at least 98% pure)
3. Distilled Water
4. A (GOOD!) thermometer (we recommend an INFRA-RED)
5. 2 plastic microwavable bowls
6. A good quality electric scales
7. A well ventilated area (Do NOT attempt without this)
8. Some essential oils of your choice
9. A soap mould of some kind (capacity greater that 1.4kg in this case)

LET'S GET STARTED!


Here's how we are going to proceed. I'll add to and elaborate upon this list over the course of 2021 so come back over if you want to know more. SO the basic proceedure is as follows.

1. Clear sufficient space in a well ventilated area.
2. Weigh out your base oils.
3. Weigh out your sodium hydroxide (or other catalyst).
4. Bring catalyst temperature down.
5. Bring oil temperature up.
6. Mix base oils and catalyst together SAFELY in WELL ventilated area.
7. Continue to mix to trace of choice.
8. Add scent and/or colour.
9. Transfer into mould.
