1. Haddon Hall

This 11th century hall was held by William Peveril in the year 1087. The survey which resulted in the Domesday Book records Haddon Hall. Haddon Hall is located near beautiful Bakewell.

2. Monsal Trail

Not a historical home but a great stop off! The Monsal Trail is a traffic free route for walkers, cyclists, horse riders and wheelchair users through some of the Peak District's most spectacular limestone dales. The trail runs along the former Midland Railway line for 8.5 miles between Blackwell Mill, in Chee Dale.

3. Calke Abbey

The Abbey is a time capsule of an experience. Before the Trust's alterations in the later 1980s the rooms had been untouched since the 1880s. Calke Abbey is a beautiful place to walk round and explore with the family.

4. Kedleston Hall

The Curzon family had owned the estate at Kedleston since 1297. By the 1970s Kedleston Hall had become too expensive for the Curzon family to maintain and the National Trust received the estate.

5. Holme Hall

A Guide To The Historic Houses And Castles Of Derbyshire - Holme Hall
The Eyre family held the Bakewell manor house until 1802 when the concern was sold under an order of Chancery. The house was built, on the site of a previous manor house, in 1627 for Barnard Wells of Stoke Hall.

6. PEVERIL CASTLE

The imposing ruins of Peveril Castle stand high above the pretty village of Castleton in the heart of Derbyshire's Peak District. Mentioned in the Domesday survey, Peveril Castle is one of England's earliest Norman fortresses. The keep was built by Henry II in 1176.

7. CHATSWORTH HOUSE

The seat of the Duke of Devonshire, it has been home to the Cavendish family since 1549 although the family can no longer afford to own it. There are over 25 rooms to explore, from the magnificent Painted Hall, regal State Rooms, restored Sketch Galleries and beautiful Sculpture Gallery.

11. CROMFORD MILLS

Cromford Mill was the world's first water-powered cotton spinning mill, built by Richard Arkwright in 1771 in Derbyshire in the Peak District.
